Located less than a mile from Gaza, Sderot has been the target of rocket fire for two decades. The result: 90 percent of residents suffer from PTSD, including 70 percent of Sderot’s children. The Sderot Resilience Center is the city’s emotional emergency room – providing individual, family and group therapies to anyone who needs them. All programs are offered free of charge.
Emotional Resilience Therapies
For a community in trauma, the Resilience Center is the place to seek help in Sderot. Individuals, families, groups of friends and colleagues receive assistance via our training courses and therapy packages. We also operate a hotline and conduct trauma workshops. And every time a rocket lands in Sderot we rush to the scene to provide emergency care.
Resilience Day Camps
At our Resilience Center, staff takes advantage of school holidays to help children of all ages overcome rocket-induced traumas. Over the years, we have found that the most effective route to easing tensions is a week-long day camp during which we teach children how to create personal safe spaces and help them bolster their inner strength.
Resilience Workshops
Almost every teenager in Sderot suffers from some form of PTSD as a result of having been the target of Hamas rockets their entire lives.
To prepare these teens for adult life – beginning with their military service – staff at our Resilience Center works with them to overcome fears and anxieties, and to ensure they feel able to cope with the challenges ahead.
