For over 20 years the SdeRock Youth Club has been a safe space and therapeutic center for Sderot’s at-risk youth who need to flee not only rockets but unfortunate family circumstances. Offering a mix of musical and social programming, it is where they come to learn to play an instrument, compose and produce music, and to heal.

In the evenings the club welcomes teenagers from across the city to a full program of musical and social activities. The professional team of social workers and therapists, all skilled at using music as a therapeutic tool, is then joined by a group of volunteer music students who offer music lessons and emotional support in equal measure.

The SdeRock Youth Club has also launched a business initiative. High schoolers have been trained to operate sound and light equipment, and are now being regularly hired for both municipal and private events.

For the 50 at-risk teenagers who seek assistance at the club, and the many more who join them for the evening sessions, we need to purchase ten Kapok LC-14 classic guitars for beginners at a cost of $103 each, a left-handed C5 EKO classic guitar at a cost of $218, three Cubase Pro 10.5 Steinberg music recording and mixing software licenses at a cost of $813 each, a HPD-20 Roland electric drum set at a cost of $1,334, and a Lead 4 Nord synthesizer at a cost of $2,403.
